I started out early from Gallup and traveled south on the 602, went thru Zuni on the 53 (I had not been there in years) and took minor roads most of the way home. Clear skies and very little traffic were in order and I got home by 09:00 am. I give a round of applause to the organizers of this rally, the largest ST rally to date. What a Great Vacation!!

I got a fairly early start from Golden with the intention of riding home today. By the time I got to Shiprock, NM I knew I wouldn't make it, too much rain. From Shiprock the rain was really heavy to the west so I decided to head south to Gallup for the night. That turned out to be the right move. The D220's are awesome in the twisties and seem to be very quiet but that may be due in part to the new Clearview windshield too. For the short time on the Interstate, these tires seemed very squirrely. I have to ask around and see if other people have encountered this problem.

Patti and I set out this morning for a 300+ mile ride thru the mountains north of Denver. Poudre canyon was to be the highlight of the trip however before we started on that portion of the ride we realized that my tires were due for replacement. When I left home I figured I had 2500 miles to go on these ME 6's but I was wrong. At 1500 they were done for. We had to take it easy thru Poudre and we got back to the Marriott safely. I found Grand Prix Motor Sports in Denver and they quickly fitted the ST with a new set of Dunlop D220's. Patti and I were 45 minutes late to the ST banquet but it all worked out OK. Big thanks to Patti for helping out!

Today I went out by myself for a ride thru Rocky Mountain National Park. I got a early start and was at the park by 9:00 a.m. the temperature was still in the low 30's but traffic was practically nonexistent! I'd rather ride in freezing temperatures than heavy traffic any day! The ride back found me on a few roads I had never encountered before such as the 7/72 and the 46 FANTASTIC roads for a rider like me! Back at the hotel the organizers of the rally had arranged for Clearview Shields to show their products. I was due for a new windshield so I decided test one. The Clearview people mounted one on my bike and I took it out for a test ride. What a nice shield! I opted for one that is 1" taller and 3" wider than stock. Tomorrow Patti and I will venture out together again, we have a 300 mile tour planned...

At breakfast I met up with Patti and Bob, and two other ST riders, Tony and David. After breakfast Patti and I rode to Mount Evans. This was the last day this year that the summit was open. We got there a bit early and at 14,130 feet it was a bit chilly, still only 41 degrees. After Mount Evans we rode around a bit then returned to the hotel for the official rally check-in.. Because I thought I was having trouble with my iPod, David, Patti and I went to a Denver Apple Store to have it checked out...of course when you take your car to the mechanic...the iPod was just fine so we headed back to the Marriott. David led on the way back because I'm kinda dingy sometimes and that's all I'm going to say on the matter. It was nice to have someone else lead for a change. David is an great rider and I wish we could have had more of a chance to ride together. David and Tony live in the Phoenix area so I think we'll get to ride together again.

I arrived in Golden at about 9:00 a.m. I left Montrose early because I couldn't sleep. Good thing too because my phone quit working again. Colorado Mills Mall is just over the freeway from where I am staying in Golden so Linda Lambert (ST1100) took me in her Xterra and got the phone replaced. STers were starting to arrive and I met Gene who knows the singer of every song since the beginning of time, Jim, Dan, Daniel and too many others to name. A great group of people. Patti and her crew arrived a little late and she called my room at 11:00 p.m. to see if I wanted to join them for breakfast.

I got a bit of a late start but today ended up as a nearly perfect ride. There was a heavy rain thru the mountains on Arizona 264 that lasted about 10 miles and a few drops of rain north of Durango on the 550, other than that the weather was fantastic. The was very little traffic going my direction which was surprising because the traffic going the opposite directing was horrendous. When I got to Silverton, my hotel reservation didn't pan out so I continued on the Montrose. Today's mileage was just over 500, tomorrow should be around 250 unless I take a detour...very likely

I will head out for Golden Colorado tomorrow for an STOC rally. I had not planned this trip until my friend Patti (we rode together to last years rally in San Luis Obispo) reminded me of it last Monday. I have reservations for tomorrow night in Silverton, Co and the day's mileage should be around 430. The forecast for Golden looks promising, nice temperatures and no rain projected...If time permits, bit of Geocaching would be nice too.

Due to knee problems, I haven't seen much riding this year, certainly nothing to write about. I had surgery on my right knee and I think post-surgery is going quite well.
I hope to be back in the saddle soon and I am planning a trip to the Grand Canyon just as soon as I am up to it. One purpose of the trip will be to drop off a Geocaching Travel Bug named Hy'Shqa. Hy'Shqa is headed to Puget Sound.
